Held off calling my dad for years because I thought he'd just tell me "figure it out yourself" but last time my AC went out at midnight I was desperate and he actually talked me through bypassing the safety switch just to get it running until morning. Really changed how I see that whole tough love thing he does.

Huh, @fiona_west21, sounds like the old man had a hidden talent for late night AC whispering. Guess tough love just means he saves the helpful stuff for emergencies.
