Found a weird trick to stop my car battery from dying in the cold

My old Civic kept needing a jump every morning when it got below 20 degrees, and I was about to drop $150 on a new battery. I read online to turn on the headlights for a minute before trying to start it, which somehow warms up the battery chemistry, and it actually worked last week. Has anyone else tried this, or is there a better fix I should know about?

My buddy Jake in Minnesota tried that headlight trick on his truck for a whole winter. It helped a bit, but like lewis.terry said, he finally got his alternator tested and it was barely charging. Replacing that was the real fix for him in the end.

So your fix involves draining the battery to save the battery?

That trick might work but you should really check your alternator's output.
