I called the 401k help line and they actually fixed my problem in 20 minutes
I've been ignoring a weird fee on my 401k statement for like 6 months, convinced calling would be a multi-hour nightmare. Finally bit the bullet last Thursday. The guy, named Mark, pulled up my account, explained it was a mistaken administrative charge, and reversed it right there. I got a confirmation email before we even hung up. I'm so used to customer service being useless that this genuinely shocked me. Has anyone else had a surprisingly painless experience with financial stuff lately?

My bank's fraud department actually caught a weird charge before I did last month.

My buddy had his card skimmed at a gas station last year. The bank texted him about a weird charge for like 500 bucks of electronics he never bought. It's pretty wild how fast they can shut that stuff down sometimes.

Forget one good call, that's just luck. My sister spent three months trying to get a simple beneficiary update done on her retirement account. They kept losing the notarized form (which is a whole other nightmare to get). Every call meant a new person and starting from zero. They finally fixed it last week, but only after she filed a formal complaint. These places are set up to make basic things hard so you just give up and let them keep your money. Your guy Mark is the exception that proves the rule.
