Just realized I can actually cook a decent meal from scratch

I tried making a simple chicken and rice dish last night, following a recipe on my phone. It actually turned out pretty good, and I didn't burn anything for once. What's the first meal you managed to make that didn't come from a box?

Scrambled eggs taught me that low heat and patience make all the difference in cooking.

Oh man, that's awesome! My first win was scrambled eggs, which sounds sad but I used to somehow make them rubbery. The trick was finally learning to take them off the heat early, and adding a little milk. It felt like a huge victory.

Oh, scrambled eggs are a real test of patience. I remember my mother teaching me to stir them slowly with a fork, not a whisk, and to always use a non-stick pan. It took me years to stop overcooking them into little dry curds. That moment when they're just set but still soft is pure kitchen magic.

My first real cooking win was a grilled cheese. I burned the bread every single time. Finally got it right by using way lower heat than I thought I needed, and real butter instead of margarine. That perfect golden brown crunch was a game changer. Felt like I cracked a secret code.
