My apartment's radiator valve broke off in the middle of a freeze and it took 4 hours and a plumber from across town to stop the leak.
I thought I could just shut the main water line and replace a washer, but the corroded pipe threads needed a special tap I didn't have, so I had to sit there holding a bucket for an hour waiting for help, which really makes you question your whole 'I can fix anything' mindset.

Isn't it funny how life uses a broken pipe to remind you that some jobs need a pro? @sean_cooper58 is right, that bucket really is the universal sign for a plan gone wrong.

Nothing tests your DIY confidence like a bucket and four hours of regret.

Oh man, I saw a thing that called that bucket the "DIY white flag." It's so true, because you only go get it after you've already made everything worse. That's when you know you're officially in over your head.
