My boss said my reports were too long, so I cut them in half

I used to write three page status updates every Friday for our team in Austin, thinking more detail meant more value. My manager finally pulled me aside after 8 months and said "nobody reads past the first bullet point, just give me the numbers and the blocker." Now I send a tight half page and suddenly people actually respond, is thoroughness just a way to hide from making decisions?

Oh man, that hit way too close to home. It's crazy how we think more words equals more effort, when really it's just harder for everyone to dig through. Good on you for making that change, it sounds like you figured out what actually matters before I did.

Hell @linda_dixon49, it's just emails, not a therapy session, maybe we're overthinking it.
