My dad told me to buy a plunger before I needed one
When I moved into my first apartment in Tucson, he gave me that advice (and a cheap one from the store). I laughed it off until my toilet clogged at 11pm on a Tuesday. That $8 tool saved me from a real disaster. Anyone have a story about a simple piece of advice that saved your day?

Yeah, the "right details" part is so true. I got told to always keep a blanket in my car, which was great until I got stuck in a snowstorm and realized my cute throw blanket was useless. Needed a real thermal one. It's like the advice is half the battle, you gotta figure out the specifics yourself sometimes lol.

Actually had the opposite happen with jumper cables. Bought a set after hearing that advice, but my car battery died in a grocery store lot and the cables were too short to reach the other car. Felt pretty dumb. Sometimes the advice needs the right details, like getting long enough cables.
