Pro tip: I set up a $50 monthly transfer to a 'fun money' account and it backfired.
I thought having a small, separate pot for treats would stop me from feeling guilty about spending, but now I just feel bad when I don't use it by month's end. It turned a simple pleasure into a chore. Does anyone else have a system for guilt-free spending that actually works?

My system is just a coffee can in the garage. If there's cash in it, I can spend it. If there's not, I wait. Turns out my willpower is directly tied to how far I have to walk to get the money.

I switched to a quarterly fund (way less pressure to spend it).

Yeah that's a solid move, @the_linda. I did the same thing last year and it just feels way more sane. The monthly cadence made me feel like I was always on a deadline. Now I can actually plan things out and let the money pile up a bit for bigger goals. Takes the panic out of the whole process.

Honestly just ditch the monthly schedule. Let that money build up until you actually want something, then spend it without looking at the calendar.
