Savings automation is finally running after I kept skipping it. Victory or just normal stuff?

I set a recurring transfer to stash cash every payday. Part of me sees it as a solid step for handling money better, but my roommate laughed and said it's basic adulting. Where do you all stand on counting these tiny wins?

Honestly, calling auto-savings a victory is like patting yourself on the back for brushing your teeth, it's just normal stuff. Your roommate is right that it's basic adulting, and @karen361 proved it's not even a full fix since she almost overdrafted by not watching her balance. Real money wins need more effort, like actually spending less or making more cash, not just clicking a few buttons to set up a transfer.

Yeah, that overdraft scare is the worst feeling. Been there.

Your roommate does not get it. Setting up savings to run on its own is a big win because lots of people put it off. Think about when you had to move money by hand each payday and often skipped it. Now it works without you, like a subscription you do not cancel. Small steps lead to actual cash saved over months. Saying it is just adulting is like calling walking easy, but you still have to move your legs.

Actually, setting it up on auto-pay is smart, but it's not a set-and-forget thing (I learned that the hard way). You still gotta check your accounts now and then. Like last month, my automatic savings transfer went through right before a big vet bill, and I almost overdrafted. So yeah, it helps save money, but you can't just ignore your bank balance. It's more like a tool that needs a quick look now and then to work right.
