Serious question, has anyone else had their grocery bill cut in half by just switching stores?

For about a year, I was spending nearly $150 a week at the big chain store by my apartment. A friend finally convinced me to try the Aldi that's a 15 minute drive away. After 3 months of shopping there, my weekly average is down to $75. The quality is basically the same, but the store brand stuff and lack of fancy displays just costs less. What other simple switches have saved you a ton of money?

You said their whole model cuts out the middleman fluff. That's mostly true, but it's not just about fancy lights. A big part is their limited selection. You only get one or two choices for peanut butter, not a whole aisle. That lets them buy in huge amounts and get a better price from the supplier. So you're also paying for the convenience of endless options at a regular store.

Their limited selection also saves on labor costs, which is another huge part of the price difference.

Switching grocery stores is the most obvious money hack nobody talks about. People get stuck in their routines and just accept the price gouging. That Aldi price cut doesn't surprise me at all. Their whole model cuts out the middleman fluff that makes other stores so expensive. It proves you're mostly paying for fancy lights and marketing, not better food. More people need to wake up and make that simple drive.
