Serious question, how do you handle a client who won't pay?

Had a guy in a new subdivision ghost me after a $4,200 roof patch job last month. Instead of more calls, I sent a single certified letter stating the exact amount and date, and he paid in full within a week. What's your go-to move when someone stalls?

Honestly, a certified letter worked that fast?

Certified mail can definitely get things moving (it proves they got it, you know?). What kind of situation was @phoenixw11 dealing with, if you don't mind me asking? Sometimes it's the specific threat of legal action that does the trick, not just the letter itself. The speed really depends on who's on the other end and how much they want to avoid a bigger problem.

Worked that fast" makes me wonder what they were ignoring BEFORE the letter showed up.

Putting it in writing with a paper trail changes the whole game for some people. They know you HAVE proof they got it, so they can't play dumb later. It's like a little wake up call that says "hey, this is serious now.
