That $400 vet bill taught me to stop free feeding my cat
Last month I took my cat to the vet after she started begging nonstop. Turns out she was just bored and overeating, not starving like she made me believe. The vet told me she packed on 3 pounds since her last visit and that free feeding was the problem. I switched to measured meals twice a day and she actually seems more chill now. The begging stopped after about a week and she doesn't cry at 5am anymore. Has anyone else had their pet totally gaslight them into thinking they're starving?

your dog is an actor" wow that is hilarious but also kind of scary. How did your friend finally catch on, did the dog drop the act once she got the treat?

@lilya76 honestly maybe the cat really was a little hungry, not starving but not full either... free feeding works fine for some cats, not all. My neighbor's cat free feeds and is a healthy weight, vet says no issues. People act like every cat is the same but they're not. Maybe try mixing it up, give her a little more at night if she's crying before dawn.
