That stat about retirement savings made me want to scream

I was reading a financial blog the other day and it said the median retirement savings for Americans my age is under $50,000, which basically means half of us are in even worse shape than that. How are we supposed to just accept that and keep grinding our 9 to 5 like everything's fine?

$50k is more than most people will ever save period.

Read a study last year that said something like 55% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. That $50k number sounds like a pipe dream to a lot of people when rent and groceries eat up half your paycheck. A buddy of mine got laid off from a factory job and he had maybe $3k saved after 10 years working there. The deck is just stacked against regular folks trying to build that kind of cushion.
