The $60 attic stair cover that paid for itself in one winter

Ngl, I thought those insulated attic stair covers were a gimmick until my heating bill hit $240 in January. I bought a basic one for $60 and installed it in about 20 minutes. My next bill dropped to $180, so it paid for itself basically right away. Also my hallway stopped feeling like a wind tunnel every time the furnace kicked on. Anyone else tried one of these, or did you find a better way to seal that gap?

The bill drop probably wasnt all from the cover. January to February is actually a milder swing for most places. You mightve had warmer weather that month too. Dont get me wrong, sealing that gap is smart, but the math is shakier than it looks. I did the same thing with a spray foam kit and my savings were way less dramatic. Compare two same-temp months before you give that cover all the credit.
