The time I used a hair dryer to defrost my freezer because the manual said it would take 24 hours
After my freezer door was left ajar overnight, the manual's 24-hour defrost estimate seemed impossible, so I carefully used my hair dryer on the cool setting from 2 feet away and had it clear in about 45 minutes, saving all the food... has anyone else pulled off a weird appliance hack that actually worked?

Isn't that a huge fire risk though?

Most houses have wiring that's decades old and it's fine. Modern electrical codes are pretty strict about safety standards. It's not like people are just taping wires together in the wall.
