The washing machine broke on a Tuesday and I had to decide between repair and replacement
Our 12 year old Whirlpool gave out last week in the middle of a soak cycle. Water everywhere in the laundry room, and the repair guy quoted me $425 for a new control board. That is about half of what a decent new machine costs these days. On one hand, repairing it keeps another appliance out of the landfill and I know the old one worked well for years. On the other hand, paying $425 on a machine that might have the transmission go next month feels like throwing money away. I ended up going with the repair because I could have it done in 2 days versus waiting a week for delivery. Has anyone else had to make this call with a major appliance and regretted their choice either way?

Made the SAME call on my dishwasher last year and now it sounds like a dying cat during the rinse cycle, so clearly my repair money was well spent.

Aw man, that's rough... I hate when you think you fixed something and it just comes back worse. Makes you wonder if it was even worth it in the first place.

Oh man, @grantp14 you're speaking my language. I fixed my dryer last spring and it ran quiet for like two weeks and then started making this grinding noise that sounds like a blender full of rocks. Now I'm too scared to even open it up again because I know I'll just make it worse. Why do we even try, right? My wallet is still mad at me from the last time.
