Update: 3 years ago I moved back into my mom's place at 29 and I'm still here paying $400 a month
I swore it would be six months tops. That was October 2021. My lease in Columbus ended, rent jumped to $1,450 for a one bedroom, and I did the math on my $19 an hour job and decided to move home to save up. It's now 3 years and 4 months later. I have $11,200 in a savings account that I check way too often, and I still sleep in my old childhood bedroom with a poster of a band I don't even like anymore. My mom charges me $400 a month and does my laundry, which sounds great until you're 32 and your coworker asks what you did over the weekend and you say you and your mom went to Costco. My girlfriend of 8 months still doesn't know. I keep telling myself the $11k is freedom money but I looked at studio prices near my job and that's literally 8 months of rent and then it's gone. Has anyone gotten out of this without moving 4 hours away or taking on a roommate from Craigslist?
