Vent: The day my entire crew called out sick and I had to finish a 3-bedroom paint job in Denver alone.

After 12 straight hours of cutting in ceilings, I realized the hard part wasn't the physical work, but the crushing silence of being the only person responsible when everything falls apart. Anyone else have a story about a day where being the boss just totally sucked?

Ugh, the worst part is when you finally finish and realize there's nobody to even complain to about it. You just sit in your truck staring at the steering wheel, too tired to even turn the key. That kind of lonely tired is a whole different animal.

Yeah, been there. Next time, call the paint supplier and ask if they have a day laborer list. Got me through a kitchen remodel when two guys no-showed.

My buddy's deck project got saved by the hardware store's list last summer. They sent over a guy who worked like three people. How long did your kitchen reno take after that?

Oh man, that list is a total gamble. One time I got a guy who took three coffee breaks before lunch and used my good towels to wipe up drywall dust. Another time, this quiet older dude showed up and had my whole backyard fence stripped and stained by noon. You just never know what you're gonna get.
