TIL my cheap rice cooker was lying to me for 5 years

I got a new one last Tuesday after my old one finally died, and turns out the 'cook' light clicking off means it's done, not that it needs to sit for 20 more minutes. My roommate saw me staring at the pot and asked why I was waiting, and I had no answer. All that time I was eating mushy rice every single night, thought it was just how rice was supposed to be. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget they were using wrong the whole time?
