Update: told the night foreman at the grain elevator in Fargo I was quitting, listened when he said my 2am temper was the real problem
He said I blew up at 3am over a clogged auger when the daytime crew would've just poked it with a stick, so I started taking my 15 minute breaks down by the scale house instead of standing in the noise, and I haven't walked off a shift in 7 weeks, has anyone else changed a habit because of one thing a coworker said at 3am?
Back when I drove a forklift at a Lowe's distribution center in Georgia, this older guy named Pete told me during a smoke break that I gripped the steering wheel like I was mad at it. Never forgot that. Started paying attention to my hands, and sure enough every time I got stressed I was white knuckling the wheel and tensing up my whole body without even knowing it. Little stuff like that sticks with you more than the big talks, in my experience. Now I catch myself doing the same thing in my truck and I just loosen up and breathe.
