A customer's kid asked me if our crane was a robot and it made me think
We were doing a big oak removal in Springfield last month, and the homeowner's son, maybe 7, was watching. He pointed at our grapple saw on the crane and asked, 'Is that a robot arm?' I told him it was, but a person was driving it from the truck. His eyes got wide and he said, 'So it's like a super strong video game?' That simple question stuck with me because it showed how AI and robotics just look like normal tools to the next generation. Has anyone else had a moment where a non-tech person made you see your work in a totally new light?

Ever notice how kids get it right because they don't know the "right" words yet? That kid calling a grapple saw a robot arm is spot on, it's just a remote controlled tool. We add all the complex jargon later and lose the simple picture.

Oh man, that's a great story. It makes me wonder, does that kind of thinking change how we should explain what we do? Like, if a kid sees a complex crane as just a cool robot game, maybe we overcomplicate stuff for adults. What's the simplest way you've found to explain a high tech part of your job to someone who has zero clue?

My old boss used to say "imagine it's a magic box that fixes mistakes" and that finally clicked for me.
