Appreciation post: That AI training model I built crashed after 47 hours of processing last night

Was running a custom neural net on a local server in my garage in Phoenix, got 47 hours in, and the power flickered during a monsoon storm... poof, all gone. Has anyone else had their AI experiments ruined by something totally random like that?

Heard someone on a tech podcast say they lost a similar project when their neighbor's car hit a power pole. At least you got 47 hours of data you can use to rebuild smarter. Better losing it to a storm than finding out your model was trained on garbage.

Interesting point @wood.faith, but how do you actually define "garbage" in training data? Like, is it missing chunks from the blackout or is it noise from equipment failures? Seems like both could mess with your model's accuracy in different ways. Just curious if there's a clear line or if it's more of a feeling you get.

What kind of backup plan are you running now after that crash?
