I finally got a custom GPT to write a decent cover letter, then it started suggesting I apply for jobs in Antarctica

Spent two hours fine-tuning it with my resume, only for it to get weirdly fixated on polar logistics. Has anyone else's AI helper gone completely off the rails like this?

Okay wow, this is the exact post that changed my mind about these tools. I used to defend them and say people just weren't using them right. That's the thing, they latch onto a single word and run with it. My guess is your resume mentioned handling "cold calls" or working in a "fast-paced environment" and the AI made a wild, literal jump. It's like they have no real world sense, just pattern matching gone wrong. You spend all this time feeding it good info, and it still comes back with something completely unhinged. It makes the whole tool feel more like a quirky toy than a real help.

Hold on hold on, are we sure the AI is wrong here though? Maybe your retail job gave you crazy good hand-eye coordination from folding clothes really fast and you have the stamina from being on your feet all day. Deep sea welding is all about steady hands and not panicking when things go wrong, sounds a lot like Black Friday to me. Plus selling expensive electronics to angry customers basically trains you to work under insane pressure. Maybe it's not perfect but looking at it from the AI's broken logic, it's not the worst connection ever.
