TIL ChatGPT actually does math ok if you ask it specific things

I got curious last night and asked ChatGPT to calculate the volume of a weird shaped tank at my work and it gave me the right answer to 2 decimal places. I was totally expecting it to mess up since everyone says AI can't do math but I triple checked with a calculator and it was correct. Has anyone else had a good experience with AI for number crunching or am I just lucky?

38.2 miles per gallon, mine calculated my whole route including traffic and got it right.

194 cubic feet. That's what my GPS told me once after I plugged in a delivery address wrong. But yeah I asked ChatGPT to figure the fuel distance on a route last month. It calculated the miles and gave me a total fuel cost estimate. I was shocked it actually added up right because I usually just ballpark it myself. The gallons per hour stuff gets messy but it handled it fine. I think people just repeat that AI sucks at math without really testing it.
