Found out the hard way that parchment paper in an air fryer can be a fire hazard

I was making chicken wings last week and threw a sheet of parchment in the basket to catch the grease... really convenient. About 10 minutes in at 400 degrees, I smelled something weird. Opened it up and the paper was totally burnt up on one side where it touched the heating element. Luckily I caught it before anything caught fire... but it got me thinking about what else people do that's risky. I've been air frying for about 2 years now and never had that happen before. Has anyone else had issues with parchment paper or liners in their air fryer? What do you use instead?

Yeah that's a common mistake. People don't realize most of those "convenience" liners aren't rated for the high heat in air fryers.

Well @wade871, I just use a light spritz of oil so nothing sticks and skip the liners entirely.

See a lot of people reaching for extra gadgets and shortcuts when the simple, old-school way works just fine... happens with kitchen stuff and pretty much everything else these days. We're sold on all these "time-saving" products but they end up making things more complicated or straight up dangerous, like those cheap liners. Just takes a minute to remember the basics actually work better most of the time.
