Just realized my air fryer uses less oil than I thought

I was looking through my air fryer manual last night and it said it only needs about 1 tablespoon of oil for a whole batch of fries. Up until now I was using closer to 2 tablespoons every time because I thought it needed more to get crispy. Found a recipe on the CooksAir website that confirmed it too, so I tried it with half the oil today and they came out just as good. Anyone else ever overdo the oil without realizing?

Yeah totally agree, extra oil is worth it for that crunch.

Wouldn't that just mean your fries are less flavorful though? I tried cutting back to one tablespoon like the recipe said and they came out dry and pale compared to my usual batch. The whole point of an air fryer is to get that golden, crispy outside, and oil is what helps carry the seasoning and heat. I actually use closer to three tablespoons for a full basket and they come out perfect every time. That little bit of extra oil makes a difference to me, and I'd rather use a bit more than end up with sad, limp fries.

Oh man, three tablespoons? You might as well be deep frying at that point! I guess the manual lied to all of us, or maybe it just assumes we're all watching our waistlines. At this rate I'm half tempted to just dump the whole bottle in and call it a day.
