PSA: I just learned air fryers use way more electricity than I thought

I was looking at my energy bill last month and noticed a spike. Did some digging online and found out my air fryer pulls about 1,500 watts per hour. That's almost as much as my microwave at 1,100 watts, which I only use for 2 minutes. I run the air fryer for 20 minutes most nights. Anyone else get surprised by the power draw on these things?

Right there with you. I started checking my bill more closely after noticing the same thing, and having the air fryer running for 20-30 minutes a night (it's just so convenient!) really adds up over a month.

Yeah, I saw a post on another forum where a guy actually plugged his air fryer into one of those kill-a-watt meters to check the real draw. He was shocked too because it pulled around 1,400 watts while running, basically like running a hair dryer for half an hour every night. That really puts it in perspective when you think about how little time it takes to microwave something. Someone else pointed out that if you run it for 20 minutes a day for a month, that's like 10 hours total, which adds up way faster than you'd expect. I've started using mine a lot less since reading that, or at least batch cooking to make each run worth it.

I saw something about that "pulls about 1,500 watts per hour" and it got me wondering. I read an article that said the heating element in an air fryer is basically a small space heater with a fan blowing on your food, so it makes sense it uses that much juice. It really is one of those things you don't think about until the bill comes.
