Showerthought: My mom's comment about frozen fries changed my whole air fryer game
Was at my mom's place in Toledo last weekend. She saw me shaking the basket for my frozen fries. She just goes, 'You know, you should spray the fries, not the basket.' I always sprayed the basket to stop sticking. She said it makes the fries soggy underneath. Tried her way on a bag of store brand crinkles. Put them in, gave a light oil spray right over the top. Cooked at 400 for 12 minutes, shaking once. Came out way crispier. Bottom was perfect. Never going back. Anyone have a different trick for getting frozen stuff extra crispy?

Oh my gosh, that is SO true. It's wild how the smallest tip can flip everything. I see this everywhere, like we overcomplicate the simple stuff. We focus on the tool, the basket, instead of the actual food. Your mom is a genius for cutting through that. It's a good reminder to just aim straight at the problem.

Exactly! It's like we build these extra steps into everything. We make a whole ritual out of putting on running shoes before we just go for a walk. Or we need the perfect notebook and pen to finally start writing. The thing itself gets lost. Your mom's basket thing is the perfect example of that trap. We get stuck on the wrapper and forget the candy.

Okay but that "we focus on the tool" line is where I disagree. The tool is the whole point with an air fryer. It's a tiny, super focused oven. Spraying the basket is part of dealing with the tool's design, it's not some made up step. The food needs oil to crisp, but the basket needs a quick spray so your food doesn't weld to the metal. Doing both is just using the machine right.
