Can we talk about how long a simple cannon plug repair can drag out

I had a 4 pin cannon plug on a King Air B200 that kept breaking the shield ground on pin C, and it took me three weeks and two trips to a shop in Boise to figure out the wire bundle was getting pinched by the clamp. Everyone kept saying just re-pin it and move on, but the real issue was the routing, not the connector. Spent 14 hours total on something that should have been a 45 minute job. Anybody else run into a wire chafe that hides from you every time you ring it out?
