Finally got my A&P license after three years of night classes

Three years ago, I started night classes at the community college in Tulsa while working a full day job. It was tough, especially those long nights after a 10 hour shift at the hangar. Last month, I took my written and oral exams, and I was so nervous my hands were shaking. Last week, the certificate finally showed up in the mail. I just sat at my kitchen table and stared at it for like ten minutes. My wife made a cake that said 'A&P Approved' on it. It feels good to have that piece of paper after all the work. Has anyone else gone the night school route and have tips for the first real job search with the new ticket?

Man, three years of night classes sounds brutal, but that cake is the real win here. My tip is to enjoy the cake now, because your first real job search is gonna feel like they lost your paperwork every single day. Seriously though, congrats on sticking it out, that license is a huge deal. Just be ready for the classic "need experience to get experience" loop when you start applying.

What kind of jobs are you looking at first with the fresh license?

Take this from someone who spent his first month after getting licensed Googling "how to professionally staple documents." I applied to twenty firms and got three interviews, one of which ended with the guy asking if I could at least make a decent pot of coffee. Ended up taking a job at a small firm where my main responsibility was alphabetizing old case files from 1987. Felt really official until I found a tax return from someone named "Mickey Mouse" filed in with the rest. So yeah, start with anything that doesn't require a deep background check and a passport photo.

Stellaperry is right about the experience loop. Start with small local firms.
