Just read that a single Boeing 747 has over 6 million parts. Found that in an old FAA manual from 1998 in our shop's back room.

That number is way overblown. They count every single rivet and washer. It's like saying a car has 30,000 parts because you include every screw. Most of those "parts" are tiny, simple things. The actual complex components are a fraction of that. It's a misleading stat to make it sound more impressive than it is.

Charlie's got a point about counting every little thing, but come on. If we only counted the "complex" parts, my toaster would have like three components. The sheer number of pieces, even the tiny ones, is still the whole point of the build. It's about the scale of putting it all together.

Charlie's right about the rivets, but Betty's got it. The count matters because the scale of the work is the whole story.
