Old inspector told me my safety wire was too loose and man was he right

I used to do the bare minimum on safety wire until this crusty old FAA guy walked by my bench and yanked on a wire I'd just finished on a landing gear bolt. He said 'son that wire will let go before the bolt does' and handed me a pair of pliers to redo it. Ever since then I put an extra twist every inch and actually test it with a tug before calling it done.

And thats exactly why the loose ones cause cracks nobody ever checks for.

What really gets me, @hugoj12, is how people just assume everything's fine until something actually breaks, right? I read somewhere that most foundation failures come from these small ignored issues stacking up over time.
