Old timer in the hangar told me "slow down"...

Guy had 40 years on a 727. Watched me rush through a flap cable rigging. Said "if you break it twice, you ain't learning." Three weeks later I caught a binding pulley section before it snapped. Been taking my time ever since.

Did that old timer also mention checking the rigging book after you're done? I mean, I've seen guys skip the final inspection step and miss a worn clevis pin that would've failed a week later. Idk, maybe it's just me but double checking your work against the manual is part of slowing down too.

Yeah, I actually saw a YouTube video from a rigging school where the instructor said almost the exact same thing. He showed a clevis pin that looked fine until they pulled it out of the manual's tolerance chart and saw it was way off. @karen361 is right about that final check stopping a failure later on. It's like the book is there to save you from your own eyes sometimes.
