Spent 4 hours chasing a intermittent ignition fault on a 737

Turned out to be a chafed wire hidden behind a cable bundle that I must have checked three times. Has anyone else spent half a shift on something that should have taken 20 minutes?

Tie wraps and zip ties hide chafing better than you think.

Oh man, "chafed wire hidden behind a cable bundle" is EXACTLY the kind of nightmare that makes you question your own sanity. I once spent three hours on a machine that kept tripping a breaker, and it turned out to be a tiny rub mark on a wire that was completely invisible until I moved a whole harness out of the way. I must have stared at that spot four times before I finally yanked the bundle loose and saw it.

Throw a little electrical tape on it and move on, right? I mean, sure, it was a pain to find, but once you know where the rub is, you can patch it in five minutes and be done with it. Besides, if the truck is still running and the lights work, it's not like the whole thing's gonna catch fire just from a chafed wire. Is it really worth losing sleep over a little mark on a wire?
