Talked to a 30 year A&P last week and he told me I'm overthinking my sheet metal repairs
He said just stop trying to make every seam perfect and focus on the structure underneath. Made me realize I've been wasting time polishing stuff nobody will ever see. You guys ever get advice that made you completely change how you work?

Stop polishing stuff that gets covered up anyway, lol.

My buddy's a cabinet guy and he says the opposite actually. He told me that 70% of his callback jobs for warped or cracking pieces he could trace back to guys who skipped the final sanding or the pre-finish wipe down. The moisture gets trapped under there and causes problems six months later. So yeah the customer never sees it but your warranty sure will lol.

I read somewhere once that some of those old school guys say "a good repair looks good but a great repair feels good when you touch it" which basically means focus on the structural integrity first and the pretty stuff second. It's like building a house - nobody cares if the drywall has a perfect finish when the foundation is cracked lol.
