That time I found a cotter pin in a turbine oil filter...
I was doing a 50-hour inspection on a King Air last Tuesday and pulled a metal cotter pin out of the oil filter screen. The guy before me must have dropped it during a prop change and never bothered to fish it out. Has anyone else run into random hardware left behind in a critical system like that?

Pulled a zip tie out of a sump drain screen on a 172 once, wrapped right around the mesh like it had been there for years. It was just floating around in the bottom of the engine, could've easily clogged something important if I didn't check. Always makes you wonder what else is hiding in there.

Found a shop rag stuffed in a baffle seal once, someone just wedged it in there and forgot about it. @spencer_owens58 it's the same as finding random junk in your house - you pull out an old toy from behind the couch and wonder how long it's been there. These little things just pile up until they cause a real problem.
