My ten year old coffee maker started blinking error codes last week. A firm smack on the side fixed it, no software update required. Sometimes the old ways really are the best fix.

Man, my old TV only worked after a good thump on top, just like your coffee maker.

Percussive maintenance is the only tech skill I've ever really mastered. My old car radio would only pick up one station unless you gave the dashboard a very specific tap. Felt like a wizard, honestly. Modern gadgets don't have the same satisfying feedback when you whack them, which is a real shame.

Saw an article last month calling that "percussive maintenance", an old trick that still works wonders as @wendygrant just proved.
