Old timer told me my panel placement was wrong, he was dead on

Honestly, I mounted a panel in a closet last week and a retired guy walked by and said it'd be a nightmare to service. He showed me the clearance on the left side was only 6 inches when code really wants like 2 feet. Has anyone else had to rip out a panel after a pro pointed out a basic layout mistake?

Funny how the guys who've been doing something for 40 years can spot a problem from across the room. It's like the whole world runs on "learn from your elders" but everyone forgets that in practice.
