Saw a guy wire a motion sensor backwards 3 times last week
I was on a commercial job in Des Moines and watched this installer hook up a PIR sensor with the N.O. and C terminals swapped. The thing would trigger the alarm when nobody was moving. He kept swapping out the sensor thinking it was defective. I finally walked over and showed him the datasheet. Has anyone else noticed this getting more common with new guys skipping the manuals?

That line "skipping the manuals" really stuck with me because it's everywhere now, not just in our trade. My neighbor bought a fancy new coffee maker and spent an hour trying to figure it out, then just tossed it aside and went back to his old drip machine rather than read two pages of instructions. It's like people think reading a manual means they're not a natural genius at everything (which is silly, because nobody is born knowing how to wire a thermostat). I blame the instant-gratification culture where you just swipe and tap and expect things to work, but sometimes you actually have to slow down and read the dang book.

Oh man, that's rough. I've been in similar situations where you just watch someone struggle with something so simple and it's painful. It really does seem like some of the newer folks skip the basics and just assume they know it all.
