Saw an interesting panel setup at a church job today

I was doing a service call at First Baptist downtown and noticed they had their main panel mounted upside down in the closet. Never seen that before, the lid opened from the bottom instead of the top. The old installer must have done it to keep the wires shorter or something. Has anyone else run into that kind of mounting choice?

Gotta say I'm not really sold on upside down panels. It might look clean in some tight spots but it just seems like asking for trouble if you ever need to work on it. The way breakers are designed, gravity isn't really on your side when you're flipping them from the bottom. Plus if someone else comes along later who doesn't know the trick, they're gonna be scratching their head wondering why everything is backwards. I'd rather just spend the extra time routing wires properly than deal with that headache down the road.

6 feet of clearance isn't exactly a tight space to me but alright. I'm with @the_anthony on this one though, it looks slick for what it is. Not sure it's a game changer but it definitely has its place.
