That buddy who swore by zip ties for everything cost me a service call today
My coworker Dave told me last month to just use zip ties for all my wire management on a commercial job. Said it's faster and looks cleaner. Well I went to troubleshoot a panel at a 4-story office building in Austin this morning and one of the zip ties had snapped clean off, letting a bundle of wires dangle behind the drywall. Took me 45 minutes to figure out why the zone was faulting. Has anyone else had zip ties fail on them in a humid environment or am I just unlucky?

Zip ties have their place but you gotta buy the good UV rated ones for this kind of work. The cheap hardware store packs are fine for bundling trash bags not live wires in a commercial building.

Austin humidity is brutal on that stuff. Cheap ties get brittle real fast down here.

Zip ties are for temporary, not permanent. Cheap ones don't stand a chance in humid basements or Texas summers.
