That nightmare crawlspace job in Austin actually taught me something useful
I was ready to walk off the site after the third time my drill battery died in the damp, but the homeowner's old-school electrician showed me his trick for pulling wire through tight spots using a shop vac and string. Anyone have a better method for those impossible vertical runs in brick?

Honestly, I've always found fish tape way easier for that.

Jenny47 has a good point about the right tool for the job. It's funny how people get so set in their ways with one method when a simpler fix is right there. You see that stubbornness with all sorts of small tasks, not just wiring.

My old boss insisted on using a coat hanger for every single wall run. Took me three hours on a job last year to finally give fish tape a real shot... got the same pull done in maybe twenty minutes. Kind of embarrassing how long I stuck with the hard way.

It's not just stubbornness, it's like your brain gets stuck in a rut. You do something one way for years and it becomes automatic, even when it makes the job harder. The real trick is catching yourself in that moment and asking if there's a better tool. That shift in thinking saves so much time and frustration down the road.
