The cheap motion sensors I swore were junk saved a $2,000 account

Had a commercial job in a warehouse out by the rail yard last month. Client wanted a basic system, cheap as possible. I talked them into better sensors but they said no. Figured I'd be back for service calls in a month. Three weeks later got a call that something tripped the alarm at 2 AM. Turns out those cheap passive IR sensors caught the heat signature from a cracked boiler pipe nobody noticed. Saved the warehouse floor from a flood. Still don't trust those sensors for residential but that one time they worked better than my usual Honeywell gear. Anyone else had a moment where the budget option actually came through?

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy Dave. He spent like 400 bucks on some fancy tent and sleeping pad for a camping trip, then forgot both at home. Ended up sleeping in his 20 dollar walmart hammock while everyone else froze in theirs, and he claimed it was the best sleep he ever had.
