TIL my old boss was wrong about putting keypads on interior walls only
A retired installer in Dallas told me last week he's been putting keypads by the front door since 1998 because that's where people actually stand when they're panicking, and after 3 false alarm calls this month I'm starting to think he's right... anyone else switch to entry-side mounting?
Had a similar lightbulb moment with garage door openers years back. Guy I worked with swore by mounting the outside keypad low, like knee height, because when your hands are full of groceries you can smack it with your knee instead of setting everything down. Sounded dumb until I tried it. Nobody ever talks about where your body is when you actually need the thing. Keypad placement is the same deal, the installer in Dallas figured out something the manual never will.
