Just realized the YouTube algorithm knows my sleep schedule better than I do
I pulled my watch data last night and saw that YouTube sends me a "relaxing jazz" suggestion every night between 11:07 and 11:22 PM for the last 3 weeks. I never searched for it, never clicked on it, but somehow they nailed my wind down time to the minute. Feels creepy but also oddly convenient. Has anyone else caught their feed timing things like this?

Whoa, hold up, I gotta push back hard on this. It's definitely not a coincidence, these companies have way too much data on us for that to be random. They track everything you do, what time you're online, when you pause, even how long you hover over a thumbnail, and then they feed it into a model that predicts your exact wind-down window. You might think it's harmless jazz, but once they know your sleep schedule, they can sell that data to mattress companies, supplement brands, or even insurance firms trying to price your premiums. It's not magic, it's just a cold, calculated system that's figured out your patterns better than you have, and people should be more worried about how tight that control is.

Oh, come on, now. I think you're giving the algorithm a bit too much credit there. It's not really tracking your sleep schedule or selling it to mattress companies. What it's doing is much simpler than that. It sees you're online at the same time every night, probably from your phone's activity, and it takes a guess that you might be winding down. The jazz suggestion is just a safe bet based on what other people listen to at that hour. Insurance companies aren't buying your YouTube pause data, that's a stretch. It's creepy enough without us making up extra stuff to worry about.
