Algorithms killed the random friend posts. Now it's all ads.

Did the algorithm really kill them though? The posts are still there, they just get buried under everything else now. The thing that changed is that the feed stopped showing you stuff in order, so your friends' random updates got pushed down by whatever gets the most clicks. @angela_harris is right that it feels like all ads, but it's more like the ads and viral junk won the fight for the top spot. Your friends didn't stop posting, you just stopped seeing them.
