My friend pointed out my Instagram feed was just showing me sad news stories and it made me delete the app for a week.

Ugh, I totally get that! The algorithm can really drag you down sometimes.

I read a Wired article that said the average person sees 300 algorithm-picked posts before breakfast. That's a lot of content you didn't ask for. It's no wonder it feels so draining.

Hold on, has anyone actually counted a "post" in this context? Like, are we talking about every single headline, meme, suggested video thumbnail, and sponsored ad that scrolls by, or are we counting the time a website shows you a "you might also like" link in the corner of an article? It feels like they lumped in all that passive clutter with stuff you actually stop to read. There's a big difference between stuff the algorithm throws at you while you're looking for something else and the posts you choose to click on and actually consume.
