My Netflix recommendations got creepy after I watched one obscure Finnish film

I watched a random Finnish drama called "The Fencer" last Tuesday, just curious about the setting or whatever. Now my whole homepage is Nordic noir and subtitled thrillers, like the algorithm decided I'm suddenly Scandinavian. Has anyone else had their recommendations go full tunnel vision after one offbeat pick?

Is it really that big of a deal though?

Yeah, try watching something totally different right after? I had the same thing happen where I watched one Korean thriller and suddenly my whole feed was nothing but K-dramas and kimchi documentaries for weeks. What worked for me was I watched like three episodes of an old sitcom back to back, then clicked on a few action movies I didn't care about. It kinda reset the algorithm after a couple days. The Finnish thing will fade if you just feed it some boring mainstream stuff for a bit.

Jeez, I read somewhere that Netflix’s algorithm is basically like a dog with a bone once it thinks it’s figured you out. It latches onto that one weird thing you watched and assumes that’s your whole personality now. I swear, after I watched a random Icelandic documentary about sheep herding, my feed was all farm life dramas and sad fishing movies for a week. The trick is to not panic and just watch a bunch of totally boring stuff, like a generic Marvel movie or some reality trash. Give it a few days of bland viewing and it’ll forget all about Finland. Your homepage will go back to normal faster than you think.
