My sister's job search has her convinced she's being ghosted by a computer

She's been looking for a new office job in Atlanta for about 3 months now. Last week, she told me, 'I feel like my resume just disappears into a black hole. I get an auto-reply, then nothing.' She's applied to over 80 positions and has only gotten two real interviews. The silence from all those other applications is really getting to her, and she's starting to think she's doing something wrong that only the algorithm can see. How do you keep your confidence up when you feel like a machine is judging you?

Your sister is totally right, it's a black hole out there lol. I had the same thing happen when I was job hunting last year, just endless silence from those systems. You gotta remember it's a broken process and not a judgment on you at all.

Remember it's a broken process, not a broken you.

Miles is right about the broken process, but your sister should also know those systems are often looking for one exact word match. I had a friend who kept getting rejected for marketing jobs until she added "content calendar" to her resume, then suddenly got calls. The computer isn't judging her, it's just really, really stupid. Tell her to pull words straight from the job ad and paste them into her resume's skills section. It's a dumb game, but you have to play it.
