Rant: The $40 Facebook ad experiment that exposed my whole friend group

I run a small vintage shop and last week I tossed $40 at a boosted post just to see who actually sees my stuff. It only reached 211 people and almost all of them were my existing followers, but the wild part was the comment section. My cousin and two old coworkers showed up and left these painfully sweet supportive comments, and suddenly I felt weird because I know they only saw it because the algorithm pushed me into their feed. It made me realize how much of my social media life is just me performing for people who already know me, not new customers. I spent 2 days obsessing over the analytics and then deleted the post out of embarrassment. Has anyone else felt weird about who their boosted posts actually reach, or is it just me being paranoid about my own circle? lmao

That 211 number hit me hard because it basically confirms the whole thing is a mirror, not a window. But the real question is, why did you delete it? Were you bothered that they saw the post, or that the post made you see them in that weird transactional light where their kindness felt like a favor to the algorithm? Because I have a feeling the embarrassment was less about the reach and more about realizing you can't control how people interpret your hustle when it lands right in their lap.
